Breast augmentation is the process of surgically modifying the size of a woman’s breast. A silicon bag is inserted below the breast tissue. These are then filled with a normal saline solution or gel. There are many reasons why you would desire to have this procedure done. If you are self-conscious about your breast size, breast augmentation could give you a major confidence boost. Also, if you have just undergone a mastectomy following an episode of breast cancer, now would be the time to reconstruct that tissue. Maybe, you have a congenital abnormality where one breast grows and the other doesn’t, the procedure would alleviate this condition. Breast augmentation has come a long way. It continues to give women self-confidence every day.
Selecting appropriate sizes of breast implants is critical during this procedure. What is appropriate for one woman may not be appropriate for another. You may want large implants. Or maybe you are conservative and want small ones that will look natural on you. If you do not select the right size, you may leave feeling dissatisfied. Implants that are too large may eventually cause health problems like back pain. If this occurs, you may need to surgically replace the implants with smaller ones. You don’t want this inconvenience, right? But how will you know the appropriate implant size? The sizes are defined in cubic centimeters and not cup sizes as you may expect. Below are the most common breast implant sizes that you will encounter in the market today.
Typical Breast Implant Sizes
Typical breast implant sizes fill the following cups;AA
Below 275 cc will give you an AA cup size. This cup size is very small and tends to give a flat-chested look. If you just had a mastectomy and wanted to go back to your natural AA size, anything ranging from 200cc to 275cc will fulfill your wish.
275-300 cc is the best implant size for the A cup. It depends however on your specific measurements such as the width of chest. If your chest width is long, you could go for up to 350cc implants.
If you have an A cup size and would want to enlarge it to a B cup, 250-300cc will be appropriate. If you have a new implant following a mastectomy, you will have to content with about 350cc to get this cup size.
A 520cc volume adequately fills a C cups size for the average woman. If you have 200cc of your breast tissue, 320cc of silicon will be adequate for a C cup.
This cup size will be filled with approximately 750cc. The surgeon will make up the difference with appropriately sized implants.
A DD cup is filled by a little more volume than a D cup. 800cc-900cc will give a DD cup. If you have 350cc of natural tissue, an additional 450 cc would be implanted to give you a DD cup.
It is the most common type available. It has moderate projection and diameter. For instance, a three hundred and sixty cubic centimeters wide one, has a projection of three centimeters. Its diameter is thirteen point six centimeters. This implant is for those who prefer a natural look.
Moderate Plus is a modified version of the moderate profile implant. The projection is increased and the diameter reduced. For instance, a 350cc one has a diameter of 12.5 centimeters and an increase of 0.9 inches in the projection. This type is ideal for those who have experienced drooping due to weight loss or breast feeding. If you have a wider hip, this implant will help you look proportional.
High profile implants are designed for narrow-bodied women. They are narrower therefore than other traditional implants. For instance, 350 cubic centimeters, have a diameter of 11.7 and a projection of 4.8 cm. Moderate implants would make a thin body woman look top-heavy. If you are narrow in size, this is the ideal implant for you.
These are narrower and more pointed than the high profile implants. The projection could give you an unnatural look. If you are narrow-bodied, suffering from drooping and do not mind the projection, this is the best implant for you.
There are two looks that you can get during breast augmentation; natural and augmented look. The look you get will depend on your preference. An ultra-high profile implant gives you a push-up bra look. People will know that you have undergone plastic surgery. A moderate implant can give you a subtle enlargement. If you do not want people to know that you have implants, then a natural look would be the best choice. However, if you prefer a push-up look, go for implants that give the augmented look.
Body shape and size
The right sizes of breast implants improve proportionality. Extra-large implants would look disproportional to a narrow body frame. Likewise, small implants would look abnormal on a woman with a wider frame. Ensure you select the size appropriate for your frame. Also, if you are top heavy large implants would make you even heavier on the top. Shape, therefore, must be taken into consideration during size determination.
Existing breast size
The width of your breast is a major factor in implant selection. The implant should be of similar width as your natural breast size. It can also be smaller. If you have a narrow chest, you are going to have a narrow breast width. You will have limited options as to the width of the implant that can fit you. However, you can make for a narrow width by selecting an implant with more projection.
Sagging can be caused by many factors including sudden change in weight and breastfeeding. Sagging can affect the type of implants that will suit you. If the implants are too big, the sagging can become even more pronounced. An experienced surgeon will be able to advise you appropriately concerning the right size.
Activity can affect the integrity of the implant once inserted. Women who frequently engage in yoga, for example, have reported implants moving down the breast tissue. Large implants are likely to move more as a result of activity than smaller implants. It may lead to sagging. If your lifestyle is inactive, then large implants will be appropriate.
Breast implants can be a perfect addition to any woman’s body. They increase the size of breast or replace tissue lost during medical procedures like a mastectomy. The overall effect is a woman with increased self-esteem and a boost in confidence. However, breast implants must be of the appropriate size. Otherwise, they tend to look disproportional to the rest of the body or can cause health problems. Breast augmentation sizes often change the wearer’s bra cup size. It is important to select the right size to give you the desired cup size. AA cup fills with about 200cc; A cup fills with about 300cc; B cup fills with 350cc; C cup fills with about 520 cc, D cup fills with 750cc while DD fills with about 800cc. You must know the amount of tissue you already have and get an implant that covers the difference of the cup size you desire. Also, consider your lifestyle, the look you want and sagging during size selection. Implants will give you a refined look if you select the right size.
